Newham Diverse Communities Health
& Wellbeing Forum
The Health and Wellbeing Board brings together partners from across Newham to improve the health
and wellbeing of residents. It includes representatives from Newham Council (Adults and Health, Children’s Services, and Public Health), NHS North East London, Newham University Hospital
(Barts Health NHS Trust), and Healthwatch Newham.
💡 Our Vision
We want a Newham where:
- People have the right information and tools to make healthy choices.
- Community assets are used to create more opportunities for wellbeing.
- Services work together, informed by evidence of what makes the biggest difference.
🙌 Our Responsibilities
The Board works to:
- Prepare the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA) and the Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
- Set priorities such as 50 Steps to a Healthier Newham.
- Recommend commissioning strategies for health, social care, and prevention services.
- Agree performance targets and monitor outcomes.
- Promote integrated working across health, social care, and community partners.
🎯 Key Priorities
- 50 Steps to a Healthier Newham – our borough-wide Health and Wellbeing Strategy.
- Supporting Young People – ensuring young residents are healthy, safe, and ready for adult life, including mental health, healthy weight, and youth safety initiatives.
📄 Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA)
The JSNA sets out the current and future health needs of Newham residents, considering:
- Population trends
- Use of health and care services
- Patterns of illness and poor health
- Wider factors such as housing, poverty, employment, and
